Jackie Jewett has launched a write-in campaign for the seat currently held by Sharon Trask who is not seeking re-election. Jewett’s name will NOT appear on the November 3rd ballot so voters will need to manually write her name on the General Election Ballot. Here are facts about Write-in candidates according to the Washington State Secretary of State:
Write-in candidates must file a declaration to be eligible for a hand tally of votes. Officials only tally the write-in votes in any race if the total number of write-in votes is high enough to make a difference in the outcome of the race (RCW 29A.60.021).
Write-in candidates may file a Declaration of Candidacy form up until 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Write-in candidates DO NOT appear on the ballot, websites, or in the printed Voters’ Pamphlet.
