With Trask’s resignation, the remaining Mason County Commissioners have 60 days to make an appointment to the seats. Since this is a partisan position and Trask is a Republican, the Mason County Republican Party Central Committee will present the Board of County Commissioners three names for consideration for appointment. The Party is scheduled to meet next Wednesday.
If the County Commissioners are unable to agree on an appointment, the Governor will then decide who will fill the vacant seat. However, this timeline puts appointment after the November 3rd General Election. Miguel Gutierrez and George Blush are the two candidates who are on the ballot. And Jackie Jewett is running a write-in campaign for the seat.
