Win for MMK Football…
[VIDEO] The Mary M. Knight football team came from behind and held off Taholah Saturday, winning 32 to 31. The last Owl football victory over the Chitwhins was 22 to 20 on September 23, 2011.
In Saturday’s game, Taholah scored on their first possession with a 62-yard touchdown run.
It was the defense that got MMK on the board in the second quarter when Hunter Hulford recovered a Taholah fumble in the end zone that tied the game at 6-6.
The Chitwhins responded with a five-play drive that ended with 17-yard TD pass.
Mary M. Knight tied the game at 12 on the legs of Ryder Lake, went 45 yards on two carries.
Taholah responded with another two-play scoring drive to lead 18 to 12. The Chitwhins ended the Owls’ next drive with an interception and went 71 yards on seven plays to end the first half up 25 to 12.
The second half saw MMK’s defense stop Taholah and the offense go 77 yards on 12 plays to cut the deficit to 25-18 on a goal line touchdown run by Gabe Walters. That drive also took a big chunk of time off the clock as the game moved into the fourth quarter.
Another Mary M. Knight defensive stop and the Owls pulled to within a point on a 35-yard catch and run by Lake.
Dayton Triggs ended Taholah’s next drive with an interception and MMK took their first lead of the game on a 50-yard Lake catch and run. Hulford then kicked a two-point conversion which made the score 32 to 25 with 1:48 left in the game.
The Chitwhins responded with a 50-yard drive that ended with a 22-yard TD catch.
However, Taholah tried to tie the game on the point after touchdown but that pass was denied by Triggs.
Mary M. Knight improved to 2-and-0 on the season. The Owls hit the road next Thursday with at game against Charles Wright Academy in University Place. Kickoff is 5 PM.
