[VIDEO] The Port of Shelton Commission honored the late Dick Taylor Tuesday by passing a resolution “Honoring the Life, Leadership, and Public Service of Commissioner Richard H. “Dick” Taylor.” An emotional Wendy Smith, Executive Director of the Port, read the resolution.
Taylor died suddenly last month. He spent 34 years in the US Navy, advancing from Seaman Recruit to Commander. He was a UW Graduate and received his Masters in Business Administration in 2007. His business background included being a real estate agent, the project manager for Paul Allen’s submarine construction and he was the executive director of Shelton-Mason Chamber of Commerce. Commissioner Taylor was also the executive director of a not-for-profit firm providing services to developmentally disabled adults. He previously served 6 years as the City of Shelton’s Commissioner of Finance and most recently served as a Chaplain for Central Mason Fire and EMS.
The Port of Shelton has now started the process to fill Dick Taylor’s Commissioner Position No. 2 seat. Tuesday, the remaining Port Commissioners nominated three individuals who have express interest: Ned Wilson, Sue Patterson, and Marlene Taylor.
Any registered voter in the Port of Shelton District can submit a letter of interest or may suggest additional qualified candidates for consideration. Letters of Interest must be submitted by 5 PM on October 21, 2026. Letters should be emailed to [email protected].
A special meeting may be called to review all eligible candidates and an appointment is expected by the Port Commission’s November 3rd meeting.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the Finance Director, Tricia Needham, presented the Port’s 2027 budget:
A public hearing on the budget is scheduled for 2 PM Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The Port Commission is expected to adopt the budget during that meeting as well.
