The Mason County Superior Court Clerk’s Office is making significant improvements to court services through a new records digitization grant, expanded staff training, and updated jury management technology.
Recently, the County Clerk’s Office received a $97,878.32 grant to digitize legacy court records, providing dedicated funding to preserve historical records and protect the integrity of the court record without additional cost to Mason County taxpayers. The project will help safeguard older records from deterioration, loss, or damage while creating secure digital copies for long-term preservation and access.
In addition to preserving historical records, the County Clerk’s Office is taking advantage of available training opportunities through the Washington State Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). These opportunities allow staff to expand their knowledge in critical case management areas and stay current with procedures, systems, and best practices that support accurate and efficient court operations.
An updated jury management software system has also been successfully implemented, giving jurors more options to complete jury-related tasks online. Jurors can now submit documentation electronically and monitor their reporting status through the online system, providing greater convenience and reducing the need for phone or in-person inquiries.
Looking ahead, the County Clerk’s Office is preparing for an upcoming technology upgrade that will introduce electronic filing, or e-filing, for court documents. The office is excited to partner with AOC as this next step moves forward and is actively preparing for a smooth transition. Once AOC provides a date for the transition, the County Clerk’s Office will be prepared to implement the new system and support the public, attorneys, and other court users as they begin using e-filing.
Together, these efforts represent continued progress in three important areas: preserving public records, strengthening staff expertise, and improving access to court services. The County Clerk’s Office will continue to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, preserve public records, and provide accessible, reliable services to parties, attorneys, jurors, and the broader Mason County community.
“It is absolutely my honor to work with such a diverse and talented group of people who are loyal and focused on the mission of the Clerk’s Office and maintaining the positive support of our many Courts,” stated Charles G. Rhodes, Mason County Clerk. “I also take great pride in supporting our outstanding community, ensuring everyone has access to the legal system and valuable resources that simplify their interactions with our office.”
