SHS Boys Fall; Wins for NM Girls, MMK Boys; NM Girls’ Wreslting Resutls

The Shelton boys’ basketball team couldn’t overcome a five-point first quarter and lost at Capital Friday 51 to 38.
The Highclimbers fell behind 12 points in the first quarter and 15 in the second but were able to cut that down to nine at the half.
Unfortunately, that was as close as the ‘Climbers could get to the Cougars.
Capital’s Spencer Halstead hit four three-pointers, was 5 to 6 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter and scored a game-high 19 points. The Cougars also got 14 points from Brandin Riedel and 10 from Jake Brandsma.
Ty Thompson led Shelton with 18 points.
The Highclimbers drop to 4-and-2 in the South Sound Conference, 6-and-6 overall. They host Central Kitsap Wednesday. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will broadcast that game live.

The North Mason girls’ basketball team made it two wins in a row Friday holding off Klahowya 53 to 48. The Lady Bulldogs improved ot 3-and-2 in the Olympic League, 6-and-5 overall. The girls from Belfair host North Kitsap Tuesday.
At the first day of the Kelso Girls’ Wrestling Tournament, North Mason’s Hailey Bradley advanced to the quarter finals at 190 pounds. Bradley won her first three bouts by pins. The Lady Bulldogs’ Carli Durbin is alive in the consolation bracket at 170 pounds. Durbin lost her first roun bout and then won her next four. Wrestling continues Saturday.

The Mary M. Knight boys’ basketball team improved to 3-and-0 in the 1B Coastal League Friday knocking off Oakville 85 to 30. The Owls blasted the Acorns in the first quarter building a 34 to 5 lead. The boys from Matlock maintained that lead at the half and increased it in the second half. The MMK boys take their 5-and-5 overall record to 6-and-1 Taholah Tuesday.
