Win for SHS Baseball; Loss for SHS Soccer

The Shelton baseball team opened play in the Heritage High School Baseball Tournament Friday with a 7 to 3 win over River Ridge. The Highclimbers took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Colton Fisk and an error that scored Matt Carlson. The Hawks tied the game at 2 in the bottom of the third.
The ‘Climbers took back the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring runs on an error and a Matt Carleton single, to go up 4 to 2. RR got one run back in the top of the sixth before the Shelton added two insurance runs in the top of the sixth on a Brady Rhoades single and defensive indifference. And Brad Eveland scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seven.
Daniel Crossan got the win on the mound, going four innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.
Jax Ward pitched two and a third innings allowing one run while walking one and striking out two.
Carl Turnbow earned the save, piting two-thirds of an inning, facing four batters with two reaching base (one after being hit by a pitch and the other reaching on an error).
Rhoades led the Highclimbers at the plate, going 3 for 4 with and RBI.
Carleton was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Fisk also batted in a run and scored a run.
Eveland scored two runs while Carlson, Wagner and Austin Williams scored a run each.
Shelton improved to 4-and-4 on the season. The Highclimbers play Heritage Saturday at 3 PM.


The Shelton boys’ soccer team lost to Black Hills Friday 2 to 1. The Wolves built a 2-0 lead in the first half. The Highclimbers’ goal came early in the second half, with Kaleb Carmichael collecting a ricochet off the crossbar and getting the ball to Luis Olivas who made sure the ball went into the goal in the 40th minute. The ‘Climbers drop to 2-5-and-1 on the season, 1-and-5 in the Evergreen Conference. Shelton is off for spring break and play next at W.F. West on April 9th.
