The Karen Hilburn Cancer Fund (KHCF) has donated $40,000 to Mason Health to support the purchase and implementation of MagView, a breast imaging management platform designed to enhance breast cancer screening, risk assessment, patient tracking and follow-up care.

The investment will provide Mason Health’s Diagnostic Imaging department with specialized technology that helps identify patients at elevated risk for breast cancer, streamline communication, improve follow-up tracking and create a more comprehensive breast health record for each patient.

“For us, to be able to fund a breast imaging management platform that will improve the overall experience for our clients and improve efficiency and accuracy for the diagnostic imaging staff is a wonderful opportunity,” said Kelle Nielsen, administrative assistant for the Karen Hilburn Cancer Fund. “We feel that better identifying risks for patients will allow them to make informed decisions regarding their breast and overall health. The MagView software feels like a big win for all parties.”

MagView has been dedicated exclusively to breast imaging management for more than 30 years and is currently used by more than 2,700 breast imaging facilities across the United States. The platform is designed specifically to support mammography and breast care programs by helping healthcare organizations improve patient communication, risk assessment, regulatory compliance and continuity of care.

One of MagView’s most significant benefits is its ability to identify women who may be at increased risk for breast cancer by incorporating personal and family health history into recognized risk assessment models. This information helps patients and providers make more informed decisions about breast health, screening schedules and potential supplemental imaging.

The software also helps manage breast density information and supports recommendations for additional screening exams, such as breast ultrasound or MRI, when clinically appropriate.

In addition, MagView provides a centralized system for tracking patients who require further imaging, biopsy, short-term follow-up or other recommended care. Rather than relying on manual processes, spreadsheets or paper records, the platform helps ensure patients receive timely follow-up and reduces the risk of individuals becoming lost to care.

“Early detection remains one of the most powerful tools we have in the fight against breast cancer,” said Jennifer Kummerfeldt, Director of Population Health at Mason Health. “The Karen Hilburn Cancer Fund’s generosity allows us to invest in technology that enhances patient safety, supports our imaging team and strengthens our ability to provide proactive, personalized breast care. We are deeply grateful for their continued partnership and commitment to the health of our community.”

MagView will also improve the patient experience by streamlining annual health history updates, reducing repetitive paperwork and automating important communications related to screening results, breast density information and follow-up recommendations. By reducing administrative tasks, the platform allows clinical staff to spend more time focused directly on patient care.

The donation reflects the Karen Hilburn Cancer Fund’s ongoing mission to improve cancer prevention, detection and treatment services for individuals in Mason County and surrounding communities.

“Every investment we make is focused on improving outcomes and supporting local patients,” Nielsen said. “We’re proud to help bring this technology to Mason Health and make advanced breast care resources available close to home.”
